Makayla Carlson is an interdisciplinary conceptual artist based in Ogden, IA. She works amongst various mediums, but primarily in mixed media, paintings, fiber, photography, and sculptures. Driven by her roots in the art therapy, passion for environment and sustainability, and her experiences in the natural world, a complex symbolic relationship between humans and nature is expressed in her work through the juxtaposition of elements in the natural and manufactured worlds.
She has shown in a variety of places in Iowa and Florida. Notably, Makayla has shown at the Octagon Center for Arts in Ames, IA, Polk County Heritage Gallery in Des Moines, IA, Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines, IA, and at the Ormond Beach Art Museum and Memorial Gardens in Ormond Beach, FL.
